Thich Nhat Hanh, a renowned Vietnamese Zen Buddhist monk, poet, and peace activist, was born in 1926 in central Vietnam and ordained as a monk at the age of sixteen. Exiled from his homeland in 1966 due to his outspoken advocacy for peace during the Vietnam War, he founded the Plum Village Monastery in France, which became a global center for mindfulness practice. Nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Thich Nhat Hanh's teachings emphasize engaged Buddhism, interbeing, and the art of mindful living to foster compassion and reduce suffering in everyday life. His prolific writings, including the insightful commentary in The Dhammapada, have inspired millions worldwide to cultivate peace within themselves and extend it to the world, blending ancient wisdom with contemporary relevance until his passing in 2022.
