About the Author

Sima Qian (c. 145–86 BCE), a renowned Chinese historian and polymath of the Han Dynasty, is celebrated as the father of Chinese historiography for his monumental work, the Shiji, which chronicles over two millennia of Chinese history from legendary times to the Han era. Despite enduring severe personal hardships, including castration as punishment for defending a disgraced general, Sima Qian persevered to complete this groundbreaking text, blending meticulous research, vivid narratives, and philosophical insights. This edition, '史记：第一部纪传体通史（国学网原版点注，杨树增审定）（国学备览系列丛书） (Chinese Edition)', has been meticulously edited by Zhao Minli and Yin Xiaolin, with annotations by Yang Shuzeng, making this foundational classic accessible to modern readers while preserving its original scholarly depth and literary elegance.
