Wm. Merrell Vories was a multifaceted American figure, renowned as an architect, businessman, and missionary whose literary inclinations surfaced in his early poetic endeavors. Born in 1866, Vories pursued higher education at Colorado College, where he honed his creative voice through contributions to the campus publication, the Colorado College Tiger. His sole known literary work, College Memories and Other Rimes, Much of Which Has Appeared Before in the Colorado College Tiger, captures the whimsical and reflective spirit of collegiate life, blending humor, nostalgia, and verse in a style that echoes the era's amateur poetic traditions. Beyond writing, Vories left an indelible mark on Japan, founding the Oriental Mission Society and designing numerous buildings that blended Western and Eastern aesthetics. His life exemplified a harmonious fusion of art, faith, and enterprise, influencing generations through his innovative designs and tireless philanthropy until his passing in 1961.
