Titus Livius, known as Livy, was a Roman historian born in Patavium (modern Padua) around 59 BCE, who chronicled the grandeur and moral complexities of ancient Rome across his monumental Ab Urbe Condita, spanning 142 books, though only 35 survive. A contemporary of Augustus, Livy witnessed the transition from Republic to Empire, infusing his narratives with patriotic fervor and ethical reflections on virtue, ambition, and decline.
