About the Author
Taisen Deshimaru (1914-1982) was a pioneering Japanese Soto Zen master who brought the authentic practice of zazen meditation to the West, founding numerous dojos across Europe and influencing a generation of seekers with his direct, no-nonsense approach to enlightenment. Born in Japan, he trained under the renowned Kodo Sawaki before immigrating to France in the 1960s, where he established the Association Zen Internationale and tirelessly taught the essence of Zen as a path of sitting, breathing, and living in the present moment. Deshimaru's teachings emphasized the universality of Zen beyond cultural boundaries, blending rigorous discipline with profound compassion, and his writings continue to guide practitioners toward inner peace and self-realization in a chaotic world.
