About the Author

Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj, a revered 20th-century Indian spiritual teacher, was born in 1897 in Maharashtra, India, and rose from humble beginnings as a shopkeeper to become one of the most profound voices in Advaita Vedanta. Discovered and mentored by his guru, Sri Siddharameshwar Maharaj, he attained self-realization in 1942 and spent the latter part of his life guiding seekers through intimate dialogues that pierced the illusions of the ego and the material world. Residing in a modest Mumbai tenement, Nisargadatta emphasized direct experience over intellectual knowledge, urging disciples to recognize their true nature as pure awareness beyond the body and mind. His teachings, preserved in transcribed conversations, continue to inspire spiritual aspirants worldwide, offering timeless wisdom on liberation and the non-dual reality.
