About the Author
Sir Charles G. D. Roberts, a pioneering figure in Canadian literature, was born in 1860 in New Brunswick and became renowned for his contributions to nature writing and animal stories that vividly captured the wild essence of the Canadian landscape. Educated at the University of New Brunswick and later Oxford, Roberts began his career as a poet and essayist before turning to prose, where he excelled in anthropomorphic tales that humanized the animal kingdom with empathy and realism. His works, including the Finnish edition of 'Korven kulkuri (Classic Books)', reflect a deep appreciation for the wilderness, drawing from his own experiences in the forests and fields of Atlantic Canada. Throughout his prolific output, Roberts influenced generations of writers, earning him the title of 'Father of Canadian Poetry' and a lasting legacy in environmental literature until his death in 1943.
