Shen Fu
About the Author
Shen Fu (1770–after 1840) was a Qing dynasty scholar, artist, and memoirist whose intimate reflections on love, loss, and the fleeting nature of existence have captivated readers for centuries. Born into a modest literary family in Hangzhou, he pursued a career in the imperial bureaucracy but faced repeated setbacks due to family misfortunes and personal choices. His most renowned work, 'Six Records of a Floating Life,' offers a poignant, autobiographical glimpse into his harmonious yet tragic marriage to the cultured Chen Yun, blending everyday joys with philosophical musings on life's impermanence. Though only partially completed, this slim volume endures as a masterpiece of Chinese classical literature, celebrated for its emotional depth and elegant simplicity, influencing generations of writers and romantics alike.
