His breakthrough came in 1928 with the novella 'Armageddon 2419 A.D.,' serialized in Amazing Stories, which introduced the world to Anthony Rogers, a soldier awakened in a dystopian future to battle invading forces. This work not only inspired the Buck Rogers franchise, including comics, radio shows, and films, but also laid foundational elements for the pulp sci-fi genre. Nowlan continued to explore themes of heroism, advanced weaponry, and societal upheaval in his subsequent stories, blending speculative fiction with thrilling action.
