About the Author
Pero Vaz De Caminha was a Portuguese scribe and explorer whose writings offer one of the earliest European accounts of Brazil. Serving as the official scribe on Pedro Álvares Cabral’s 1500 voyage, Caminha documented the expedition’s arrival and initial encounters with indigenous peoples in vivid detail. His observations blend curiosity, cultural reflection, and a keen eye for landscape, providing invaluable historical insight into early transatlantic contact. Caminha’s clear, descriptive prose captures both the wonder and complexity of this pivotal moment in global exploration.
