Payam Akhavan, PhD, is an internationally renowned human rights scholar, lawyer, and advocate whose career has been dedicated to the pursuit of justice in the aftermath of genocide and mass atrocities. A former war crimes prosecutor at the International Criminal Tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda, he has served as a United Nations human rights envoy and legal advisor to the International Center for Transitional Justice. Currently, Akhavan holds the position of Professor of International Law at the University of Toronto and is a Senior Fellow at the Stockholm Centre for the Future of Humanitarian Intervention. His seminal work, In Search of A Better World: A Human Rights Odyssey (The CBC Massey Lectures), draws from decades of frontline experience to explore the moral imperatives and practical challenges of building a more just global order, inspiring readers with a blend of rigorous analysis and passionate optimism for humanity's potential.
