About the Author

Paula Tesche Roa is a distinguished Chilean historian and academic whose scholarly pursuits center on the turbulent socio-political landscapes of Latin America, particularly the era of military dictatorships. With a profound commitment to uncovering suppressed narratives, she delves into the grassroots movements and human resilience that defined resistance against authoritarian regimes. Her research, grounded in extensive archival work and oral histories, illuminates the often-overlooked stories of communities in the Biobío region during Chile's dark years from 1973 to 1990. As a professor and researcher, Tesche Roa bridges academic rigor with accessible storytelling, fostering greater public understanding of historical injustices and the enduring spirit of opposition. Her contributions extend beyond academia through lectures, publications, and advocacy for memory preservation in contemporary society.
