Osamu Tezuka, often hailed as the 'God of Manga,' was a visionary Japanese artist, animator, and storyteller whose groundbreaking work revolutionized the world of comics and animation in the 20th century. Born in 1928 in Toyonaka, Osaka, Tezuka displayed prodigious talent from a young age, blending Western influences like Disney with traditional Japanese aesthetics to create dynamic narratives that explored profound themes of humanity, technology, and ethics. His iconic character Astro Boy, a compassionate robot boy fighting for justice, first appeared in 1952 and became a global phenomenon, inspiring countless adaptations in anime, film, and merchandise. Throughout his prolific career, Tezuka authored over 700 manga series and produced more than 60 anime works, leaving an indelible mark on pop culture. He passed away in 1989, but his legacy endures through institutions like the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize and his enduring influence on modern storytelling.
