Olavo Bilac, one of Brazil's most celebrated poets of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, was born in 1865 in Rio de Janeiro and became a pivotal figure in the Parnassian movement, emphasizing formal perfection, classical rigor, and aesthetic beauty in verse. Renowned for his mastery of the sonnet form and his evocative imagery drawn from nature, mythology, and urban life, Bilac's work reflects a deep commitment to linguistic precision and emotional restraint. His early collection, Poesias, 1884-1887: (Panoplias, Via-Lactea, Sarcas de Fogo), showcases his burgeoning talent through themes of passion, irony, and cosmic wonder, establishing him as a voice of Parnassianism in Brazilian literature.
