Okwui Enwezor was a visionary Nigerian-born curator, critic, and art historian whose profound influence on contemporary art reshaped global discourses on postcolonialism, identity, and visual culture. Renowned for his groundbreaking exhibitions, Enwezor served as artistic director of Documenta 11 in 2002, where he introduced critical perspectives on globalization and migration, and led the 56th Venice Biennale in 2015, emphasizing artistic responses to societal upheavals. His scholarly work, including the seminal publication 'Rise and Fall of Apartheid: Photography and the Bureaucracy of Everyday Life,' explored the intersections of photography, politics, and history in South Africa, illuminating the bureaucratic mechanisms of oppression through visual narratives.
