About the Author

O.V. Vijayan (1930-2005) was a pioneering Malayalam author, cartoonist, and journalist whose literary contributions profoundly shaped modern Indian literature. Born in Palakkad, Kerala, he drew from his experiences as a teacher, editor, and observer of post-independence India to craft narratives blending mythology, surrealism, and social critique. His seminal work, Khasakkinte Ithihasam [ഖസാക്കിന്റെ ഇതിഹാസം], published in 1969, revolutionized Malayalam fiction with its experimental style and exploration of rural life's existential depths, earning him the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award. Throughout his career, Vijayan's writings often delved into themes of human frailty, political disillusionment, and spiritual quests, influencing generations of writers while his incisive cartoons in publications like The Hindu offered sharp commentary on societal issues.
