Mordecai Richler
About the Author
Mordecai Richler was a prolific Canadian author, essayist, and satirist whose sharp wit and unflinching portrayal of Jewish life in Montreal defined much of his literary output. Born in 1931 in the city's Plateau Mont-Royal neighborhood, Richler drew heavily from his upbringing in a vibrant immigrant community to craft stories that blended humor, social critique, and the immigrant experience. After studying at Sir George Williams University, he moved to Paris and London, where he honed his craft before returning to Canada. His works often explored themes of ambition, identity, and cultural clash, earning him international acclaim and the prestigious Order of Canada. Richler passed away in 2001, leaving behind a legacy as one of Canada's most distinctive voices in 20th-century literature.
