About the Author

Molly McCully Brown is a poet and essayist whose work delves into the intersections of disability, history, and the human spirit with unflinching honesty and lyrical grace. Born and raised in the American South, she draws from personal experience and archival research to illuminate overlooked narratives, particularly those surrounding institutionalization and societal marginalization. Her debut collection, The Virginia State Colony for Epileptics and Feebleminded: Poems, earned critical acclaim for its innovative form and poignant exploration of her family's hidden past at the infamous Virginia Colony for the Epileptic and Feeble-Minded. A graduate of the Iowa Writers' Workshop, Brown has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Whiting Foundation. She teaches creative writing and lives in Pittsburgh with her husband and their dog.
