Mimmo Rotella was an Italian artist renowned for his pioneering contributions to décollage and torn poster art, transforming urban ephemera into vibrant, textured masterpieces that captured the raw energy of post-war Europe. Born in 1918 in Bari, Italy, Rotella moved to Rome in the 1940s, where he immersed himself in the avant-garde scene, experimenting with techniques that deconstructed advertising billboards to reveal layered narratives beneath the surface. His work bridged painting and sculpture, influencing the Nouveau Réalisme movement alongside contemporaries like Raymond Hains and Wolf Vostell. Throughout his prolific career, Rotella's art evolved to incorporate photography, objects, and performance, always challenging perceptions of reality and consumerism.
