Miep Gies
About the Author
Miep Gies was an ordinary Dutch office worker whose extraordinary courage during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands transformed her into a beacon of humanity. Born in Vienna in 1909 and raised in Amsterdam, she became instrumental in hiding the Frank family and others in the Secret Annex from 1942 to 1944, providing them with food, supplies, and moral support at great personal risk. After the war, Gies discovered Anne Frank's diary and safeguarded it, ensuring its publication as a testament to the horrors of the Holocaust and the resilience of the human spirit. In her memoir, Anne Frank Remembered: The Story of the Woman Who Helped to Hide the Frank Family, she recounts these harrowing yet inspiring events with quiet dignity, offering profound insights into compassion and resistance. Gies passed away in 2010, leaving a legacy of quiet heroism that continues to educate and inspire generations.
