About the Author
Matthieu Ricard is a renowned French-born Buddhist monk, photographer, and author whose life bridges the worlds of Western science and Eastern spirituality. Having studied molecular genetics at the Institut Pasteur under Nobel laureate François Jacob, Ricard abandoned a promising scientific career in 1972 to pursue Tibetan Buddhism under the guidance of revered masters like Kangyur Rinpoche and Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. Ordained as a monk, he has since devoted himself to meditation, humanitarian work, and translating sacred texts. Residing in the Himalayas at the Shechen Monastery in Nepal, Ricard serves as a key figure in the Mind and Life Institute, fostering dialogues between scientists and contemplatives.
