Matthew J. Trewhella

About the Author

Matthew J. Trewhella is a pastor, author, and advocate for biblical principles in governance and personal liberty, serving as the senior pastor of Mercy Seat Christian Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he has ministered for over three decades. With a deep commitment to Reformed theology and the historic Christian view of civil authority, Trewhella challenges modern notions of unchecked state power, drawing from Scripture and historical precedents to empower individuals and leaders to resist tyranny. His influential work, The Doctrine of the Lesser Magistrates: A Proper Resistance to Tyranny and a Repudiation of Unlimited Obedience to Civil Government, has become a cornerstone for discussions on lawful resistance and the limits of obedience to human rulers. Through his writings and speaking engagements, Trewhella inspires a return to God-honoring justice and the protection of God-given rights in an age of encroaching authoritarianism.
