About the Author
Maria Alyokhina is a Russian writer, activist, and performer whose work draws on lived experience of protest and imprisonment. Her memoir Riot Days recounts her time as a member of the punk collective Pussy Riot and the global attention that followed their 2012 performance in Moscow's Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. Alyokhina writes with clarity and urgency, blending personal testimony with sharp political observation to illuminate the costs of dissent under authoritarian rule. Her voice remains vital in contemporary discussions of free expression and resistance.
