Luis de Molina (1535-1600) was a prominent Spanish Jesuit theologian and philosopher whose innovative ideas profoundly influenced the fields of metaphysics, ethics, and divine providence. Educated at the University of Salamanca, Molina joined the Society of Jesus and dedicated his life to reconciling human free will with God's omniscience, a concept now known as Molinism. His seminal work, On Divine Divine Foreknowledge: Part IV of the 'Concordia' (Cornell Classics in Philosophy, 'Concordia'), explores these themes through rigorous scholastic argumentation, drawing on scripture, patristic sources, and Aristotelian logic to propose a middle knowledge that preserves both divine sovereignty and human liberty.
