About the Author
Lord Timothy Dexter was an eccentric American merchant, entrepreneur, and self-published author whose unconventional life and flamboyant personality made him a memorable figure of early American letters. Best known for his famously idiosyncratic book, Dexter blended satire, aphorism, social commentary, and unconventional spelling into a work that continues to intrigue readers. His writing reflects an instinct for provocation and a distinctive homespun voice, while his career and public persona have inspired generations of curiosity about self-made cultural figures. Dexter remains a singular presence in literary history, celebrated as much for his originality as for his eccentricity.
