Born in 1924, he served as Director of Music at various prominent cathedrals, including Exeter and Ripon, before becoming Master of the Choir at Westminster Abbey from 1972 to 1988. Dakers was instrumental in preserving and revitalizing hymnody and anthem composition, advocating for high standards in church music through his editorial work and publications. His scholarly approach combined rigorous historical research with a deep appreciation for liturgical beauty, ensuring that sacred music remained vibrant and accessible to contemporary worshippers.
