About the Author

Lester W. Grau is a retired U.S. Army officer and renowned military analyst with over four decades of expertise in unconventional warfare and foreign military studies. A prolific writer and editor, Grau has contributed extensively to the understanding of asymmetric conflicts through his work at the Foreign Military Studies Office. His seminal book, The Other Side of the Mountain: Mujahideen Tactics in the Soviet-Afghan War, draws on firsthand accounts from Afghan mujahideen fighters to illuminate the tactical ingenuity that thwarted Soviet forces during the 1979-1989 invasion.
