Lat, the pen name of Datuk Mohammad Nor Khalid, is one of Malaysia's most beloved cartoonists and authors, renowned for his evocative portrayals of rural and urban life in post-colonial Malaysia. Born in 1951 in a small kampung near Ipoh, Lat's childhood experiences profoundly shaped his work, blending humor, nostalgia, and social commentary to capture the essence of Malaysian culture. His autobiographical graphic novels, including the internationally acclaimed Kampung Boy and its sequel Town Boy, have earned him widespread recognition, including the Fukuoka Asian Culture Prize.
