About the Author
Lalbihari Sharma is a poet and songwriter whose work captures the rhythms and sorrows of indentured life in colonial Guyana. Drawing on the oral traditions of his community, he transforms personal longing and collective memory into verses that resonate across generations. His only known collection, I Even Regret Night: Holi Songs of Demerara, preserves the music and emotion of Holi celebrations among Indian laborers on sugar plantations. Through intimate imagery and melodic language, Sharma gives voice to those whose stories were rarely recorded, offering readers a rare glimpse into a forgotten chapter of Caribbean history.
