Kurt Tucholsky (1890-1935) was a German satirist, journalist, and poet whose sharp wit and incisive commentary defined the literary landscape of the Weimar Republic. Born in Berlin to a Jewish family, he adopted numerous pseudonyms like Ignaz Wrobel and Theobald Tiger to critique the social and political absurdities of his time, from militarism to bourgeois hypocrisy. Exiled by the Nazis in 1933, Tucholsky spent his final years in Sweden, where he continued his prolific output until his tragic suicide. His works, blending humor with profound humanism, remain vital for their unflinching portrayal of early 20th-century Europe, influencing generations of writers and thinkers with their eloquent defense of peace and justice.
