Julia Oparah is a distinguished scholar, activist, and author whose work illuminates the intersections of race, gender, and health equity. With a PhD in Ethnic Studies and a career spanning academia and advocacy, she has dedicated herself to amplifying the voices of Black women navigating systemic barriers in maternal healthcare. Her research draws from personal narratives and rigorous analysis to expose the racial disparities that perpetuate the maternal health crisis in America. As a professor and community organizer, Oparah collaborates with grassroots movements to advocate for policy reforms and culturally competent care. Through her writing, she challenges readers to confront uncomfortable truths and envision a more just future for Black motherhood, blending empathy with incisive critique to foster meaningful change.
