About the Author

John Nevius was a pioneering missionary and author whose life and writings profoundly influenced the global spread of Christianity in the 19th century. Born in the United States, he served as a Presbyterian missionary in China for over forty years, where he developed innovative strategies for church planting and self-sustaining Christian communities. His seminal work, 'The Planting And Development Of Missionary Churches,' draws from his extensive fieldwork, offering practical insights into indigenous church growth, evangelism, and the role of native leadership in missions. Nevius's approach emphasized avoiding dependency on foreign aid, empowering local believers to take ownership of their faith. A scholar of theology and culture, he bridged Eastern and Western perspectives, leaving a lasting legacy in missiology that continues to guide modern missionaries worldwide.
