Jill Barklem (1951–2017) was a beloved British author and illustrator whose enchanting tales of woodland life have captivated generations of young readers. Born in Epping, Essex, she drew inspiration from the ancient hedgerows and secret glades of her childhood countryside, infusing her stories with a magical realism that celebrates the rhythms of nature and the joys of community. After studying at St Martin's School of Art, Barklem created the Brambly Hedge series, a collection of beautifully illustrated books that follow the adventures of anthropomorphic mice in a hidden village beneath the roots of an old hedge.
