János Körner

About the Author

János Körner is a distinguished Hungarian mathematician and information theorist whose groundbreaking contributions have profoundly shaped the field of coding and communication systems. Born in Budapest, he pursued advanced studies in mathematics, earning his doctorate from the Eötvös Loránd University before embarking on a career that bridged academia and practical applications in data transmission. Körner's work on the mathematical foundations of information theory, particularly in discrete memoryless systems, has earned him international acclaim, including prestigious awards from the IEEE and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. As a professor emeritus at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, he continues to mentor young researchers while exploring intersections of probability, combinatorics, and network information theory. His rigorous yet accessible approach has made complex concepts approachable, influencing generations of engineers and scientists worldwide.
