Jamil Jan Kochai is an Afghan-American author whose evocative storytelling bridges the cultural landscapes of his heritage and adopted homeland. Born in Peshawar, Pakistan, to Afghan parents, he spent his early years in a refugee camp before immigrating to the United States, where he now resides in California. Kochai's narratives often explore themes of displacement, identity, and the human cost of war, drawing from personal and familial experiences in Afghanistan. His debut novel, 99 Nächte in Logar: Roman (German Edition), garnered critical acclaim for its poignant portrayal of a boy's quest in rural Afghanistan, blending humor, folklore, and unflinching realism. A graduate of the Iowa Writers' Workshop, Kochai continues to write stories that illuminate the complexities of the immigrant experience and the enduring spirit of his ancestral land.
