Jamgon Kongtrul (1813-1899) was a pivotal figure in 19th-century Tibetan Buddhism, renowned as a scholar, teacher, and visionary who played a central role in the Rimé movement, which sought to preserve and synthesize the diverse lineages of Tibetan spiritual traditions. Born in eastern Tibet, he authored over 100 volumes encompassing philosophy, medicine, history, and meditation practices, compiling vast encyclopedic works that safeguarded endangered teachings amid political turmoil. As one of the five primary tertöns, or treasure revealers, of his era, Kongtrul's contributions bridged ancient wisdom with practical application, influencing generations of practitioners worldwide.
