James Willard Schultz, born in 1859 in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, was an American author and frontiersman whose life intertwined intimately with the Blackfeet Nation of Montana. After leaving home at seventeen, he ventured west, eventually settling among the Blackfeet in 1880, where he married a tribal woman, adopted their customs, and became known as Apikuni. Schultz's writings, drawn from his decades of firsthand experiences, offer vivid portrayals of Native American life, landscapes, and traditions on the vanishing frontier.
