Jacobo Timerman
About the Author
Jacobo Timerman was an Argentine journalist, publisher, and human rights advocate whose unflinching voice exposed the brutal realities of political repression in Latin America. Born in 1923 in Ukraine and immigrating to Argentina as a child, he founded and edited the influential newspaper La Opinión, championing liberal causes and investigative reporting during a turbulent era. His abduction and torture by the military junta in 1977 became a global symbol of resistance against authoritarianism. Released in 1979 after international outcry, Timerman continued his work in exile, authoring memoirs that blend personal testimony with sharp political analysis. He passed away in 1999, leaving a legacy of courage and commitment to press freedom and justice.
