Hrant Dink

Hrant Dink was a prominent Turkish-Armenian journalist, editor, and intellectual whose courageous voice championed human rights, minority rights, and reconciliation in a divided society. Born in 1954 in Malatya, Turkey, he founded the bilingual Turkish-Armenian newspaper Agos in 1996, using it as a platform to bridge cultural divides and confront taboos surrounding the Armenian Genocide. Through his incisive columns and essays, Dink fearlessly critiqued nationalism, advocated for Turkey's integration into Europe, and promoted peace amid rising tensions. His work, often translated and celebrated internationally, earned him numerous awards, including the European Press Prize. Tragically assassinated in 2007 outside his Istanbul office, Dink's legacy endures as a symbol of free speech and tolerance, inspiring generations to pursue justice and dialogue.
