About the Author

Xenophon (c. 430–354 BCE), the ancient Greek historian, philosopher, and soldier, is renowned for his vivid accounts of classical antiquity and his close association with Socrates. Born into an Athenian aristocratic family, he participated in the Peloponnesian War and later joined the Persian prince Cyrus the Younger in his ill-fated expedition against his brother Artaxerxes II, an adventure chronicled in his seminal work Anabasis. Xenophon's writings blend historical narrative, practical philosophy, and personal memoir, offering invaluable insights into Greek military tactics, ethics, and daily life. Exiled from Athens for supporting Sparta, he found refuge in Scillus, where he composed many of his enduring texts. His 'Memoirs of Socrates' (回忆苏格拉底) provides a unique, non-Platonic perspective on the philosopher's teachings, emphasizing practical wisdom and moral conduct over abstract theory.
