About the Author
Giovanni Battista Piranesi was an Italian artist, architect, and printmaker whose dramatic visions transformed architectural engraving into a form of imaginative storytelling. Celebrated for his monumental views of Rome, elaborate architectural fantasies, and astonishing command of line, he combined archaeological interest with theatrical invention. His works convey both the grandeur of ancient ruins and the unsettling power of spaces shaped by memory, ambition, and time. Through intricate compositions and bold contrasts of light and shadow, Piranesi influenced generations of artists, architects, and designers. His enduring legacy is represented in part by Selected Etchings by Piranesi, Series 1.
