George Frideric Handel (1685-1759) was a German-born British Baroque composer whose prolific output profoundly shaped the landscape of classical music. After early successes in Hamburg, Italy, and London—where he settled in 1712—Handel became a cornerstone of English musical life, serving as Kapellmeister to the Elector of Hanover (later King George I) and composing operas, oratorios, and instrumental works for the royal court and public theaters.
