Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770–1831) was a towering figure in German philosophy, whose dialectical method profoundly shaped modern thought in metaphysics, epistemology, and political theory. Born in Stuttgart, he studied theology before immersing himself in the intellectual ferment of Jena, where he befriended Schelling and witnessed Napoleon's triumph, which he famously called the 'world-soul on horseback.' Hegel's philosophy posits history as a rational process unfolding through thesis, antithesis, and synthesis, culminating in the realization of absolute spirit. His magnum opus, 'The Science of Logic,' meticulously explores the nature of being, essence, and the concept, laying the groundwork for his comprehensive system.
