About the Author

Гaito Gazdanov, a prominent Russian émigré writer born in 1903 in Saint Petersburg to a Cossack family, spent much of his life in exile after fleeing the Bolshevik Revolution. Serving in the White Army during the Russian Civil War, he later settled in Paris, where he worked odd jobs while pursuing literature and philosophy studies at the Sorbonne. His works, often introspective and melancholic, explore themes of displacement, identity, and the human condition amid the upheavals of the 20th century. Gazdanov's prose, influenced by his nomadic existence, captures the alienation of Russian exiles in Europe. He passed away in 1971 in Munich, leaving a legacy of novels that blend philosophical depth with vivid storytelling, including his acclaimed 'Вечер у Клэр. Полет. Ночные дороги (Russian Edition)'.
