About the Author
The Federal Writers Project of the Works Progress Administration was a pioneering cultural initiative that documented American life through firsthand research, local histories, interviews, and vivid accounts of communities across the nation. Its work preserved voices, places, and traditions during a transformative period in United States history, creating an enduring record for readers, researchers, and travelers. Among its celebrated contributions is Los Angeles in the 1930s: The WPA Guide to the City of Angels, a richly detailed portrait of the city’s neighborhoods, landmarks, people, and evolving identity.
