About the Author
Faisal Devji is a distinguished historian and intellectual whose work explores the intersections of violence, ideology, and modernity in the contemporary world. Born in India and educated at the University of Chicago and Oxford, he holds the position of Professor of Indian History at the University of Oxford, where he delves into the philosophical underpinnings of global conflicts. Devji's scholarship challenges conventional narratives, examining how militant movements embody complex moral landscapes shaped by modern forces. His acclaimed book, Landscapes of the Jihad: Militancy, Morality, Modernity, offers a groundbreaking analysis of jihad as a transnational ethic rather than mere terrorism, drawing on diverse sources to illuminate the human dimensions of ideological struggle. Through his incisive prose, Devji bridges history, politics, and ethics, providing profound insights into the evolving nature of power and resistance in our time.
