Enrique Flórez (1702-1773) was a pioneering Spanish historian and Benedictine monk whose lifelong dedication to ecclesiastical scholarship profoundly shaped the understanding of Spain's religious heritage. Born in Villadiego, Burgos, he entered the Benedictine order at a young age and pursued rigorous studies in theology and history, eventually becoming a key figure in the Royal Academy of History. Flórez's magnum opus, the monumental España Sagrada, a comprehensive geographical-historical theater of the Spanish Church, spans over fifty volumes and meticulously documents the origins, divisions, boundaries, antiquity, and critical histories of ecclesiastical provinces, including detailed accounts of the Holy Church of Jesus Christ.
