Born in 1894 in Baltimore, Maryland, Frazier earned his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago and became a prominent figure in sociology, teaching at institutions like Howard University and Fisk University. His work often challenged prevailing narratives, blending rigorous research with bold critiques of societal inequalities. Frazier's seminal book, Black Bourgeoisie: The Book That Brought the Shock of Self-Revelation to Middle-Class Blacks in America, exposed the pretensions and contradictions within the emerging Black middle class, sparking intense debate and self-reflection among readers. Throughout his career, he authored numerous essays and studies that illuminated the complexities of Black identity and integration, leaving an enduring legacy in social science and civil rights discourse until his death in 1962.
