About the Author
Ge Hong, also known as Ge Xianweng, was a renowned scholar, alchemist, and Daoist practitioner of the Eastern Jin Dynasty (283–343 CE), whose profound contributions to Chinese medicine and immortality practices continue to influence traditional healing arts today. Born into a prominent family in Jurong, Jiangsu, he immersed himself in Taoist studies under the guidance of his uncle Zhi Dun and later became a disciple of the legendary Zheng Yin, mastering the arts of elixir-making and longevity techniques. Amidst the turbulent times of the Western Jin's fall, Ge Hong served as a military advisor and physician, blending Confucian ethics with Daoist mysticism in his writings. His seminal work, 'Baopuzi,' explores inner alchemy and the quest for transcendence, while his medical texts, including 'Zhouhou Beiji Fang'—a comprehensive manual of emergency remedies—offer practical formulas for treating ailments with herbs, acupuncture, and dietary therapies, earning him the title 'Immortal Ge' for his enduring legacy in preserving life and health through ancient wisdom.
