Diodorus Siculus
About the Author
Diodorus Siculus, a prolific Greek historian of the first century BCE, is renowned for his monumental work, the Library of History, a comprehensive chronicle spanning from mythical times to his contemporary era. Born in Agyrium, Sicily, he traveled extensively in Asia and Europe, drawing upon a vast array of sources to compile this encyclopedic narrative. Composed in forty books, the Library aims to preserve the deeds of notable figures and the progression of civilizations, blending historical facts with moral insights. Though only fragments and portions survive, such as Volumes IV covering Books 9–12.40, Diodorus's efforts provide invaluable insights into ancient Mediterranean history, influencing later historians and scholars for centuries.
